1. International Agriculture Economics Postgraduate Courses
A limited number of scholarships is available for outstanding AgEcon candidates from developing countries. These scholarships are provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) under its special initiative “Postgraduate Courses for Professionals with Relevance to Developing Countries”. The DAAD initiative aims at providing academically educated young professionals from developing countries with further specialised studies. The typical scholarship holder will come either from a public authority or state or private company in a developing country and as such be engaged in the planning and execution of directives and projects with emphasis on development policy.
DAAD scholars will receive a monthly scholarship of EUR 715 over the two-year AgEcon Programme period and a two-months intensive German language course before the Programme start. The German language course is an integral part of the DAAD initiative. It takes place in the months of August and September at the Goethe-Institute in Mannheim (Germany) or a similar institution, where full-board lodging is provided. After successful completion of the German language course, DAAD scholars relocate to Stuttgart-Hohenheim for the AgEcon Programme start in October.
Selection Criteria
DAAD scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. Only developing country nationals with at least four years of full-time university education and an outstanding bachelor degree can apply. In addition to the general AgEcon entry requirements, scholarship applicants need to have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience. The graduation from university should not be longer than 3 years ago.

Unlike stated in the DAAD form, the application should be sent directly to the AgEcon Coordination office at the University of Hohenheim. The DAAD scholarship application should be sent together with the other application documents for the AgEcon Programme (see Admission Requirements).
In addition to the documents required for AgEcon Programme admission, applicants for a DAAD scholarship have to describe their current work situation at the time of application and submit a letter of reference from their employer, ideally guaranteeing re-employment after completion of the AgEcon Master Programme.
The application deadline for DAAD scholarships is December 1 for the AgEcon Programme start in October of the next year (note that the German language course for DAAD scholars already starts in early August, as detailed above). Incomplete application packages, or applications that reach the University of Hohenheim after December 1, cannot be considered.
Applicants not selected for a DAAD scholarship will still be considered for AgEcon Programme admission, if the documents are complete. The number of scholarships available is much smaller than the number of AgEcon Programme participants, so that applicants should also look for other sources of funding. Of course, AgEcon participants (or prospective participants) can also apply for scholarships other than those described above.

2.Phd position - Is healthy eating at school associated with sustainable procurement strategies”?

There is growing evidence for the fact that there is a relationship between sustainable food consumption and choosing a healthy diet in institutional settings. For instance it has been shown that caterers serving organic food serve healthier meals than their non organic counterparts. The iPOPY project (http://www.ipopy.coreportal.org/ ) is now hiring a PhD student to study the above hypothesis in a Danish school food & nutrition context and to test if the price premium and food and nutrition policy induced change processes initiated by organic procurement policies in school food systems directly or indirectly act as a driver for healthier eating among students. The project is a part of the iPOPY research project funded through the European Research Arena project CoreOrganic. The PhD project is a part of the Danish lead workpackage
The anticipated methodology is an observational cross sectional design and will be used to test whether the change processes initiated by organic conversion in public food system directly or indirectly correlates with healthier eating habits and behaviour among consumers. A sample of 1000 students that are all potential users of school meals in 5 schools having an organic policy will be chosen. Individuals are 5-6th graders and the methodology will be based on a self administered assessment tool developed to measure frequency of intake of healthy eating indicator food items using a FFQ (Food Frequency Questionnaire) approach. Inclusion criteria for the study will be presence of a prepared food provision (as opposed to tuck shop). The methodology has been pilot tested in spring 2008. The project will run parallel to school food intervention study Evaluation of Interventions towards Young people in school food programs - project EVIUS
Applicants need to have relevant academic education in public health, nutrition or similar, with experience in dietary assessment methodologies including web and mobile technologies. Interest and knowledge of community nutrition and sustainable nutrition programmes, as well as sustainable food strategies.
Good command of both English and Danish. Experience in working in a multidisciplinary and international team with both natural & social science approaches is considered an asset.
