hạt:Tế bào trứng sau khi thụ tinh tạo nên hợp tử và sau phát triển thành phôi. Phôi hạt là nguồn tổng hợp auxin nội sinh quan trọng, khuyếch tán vào bầu và kích thích sự sinh trưởng của bầu để hình thành quả. Vì vậy quả chỉ được hình thành khi có sự thụ tinh. Nếu không có quá trình thụ tinh thì không hình thành phôi và hoa sẽ bị rụng. Việc xử lý auxin ngoại sinh cho hoa sẽ thay thế được nguồn auxin nội sinh vốn được hình thành trong phôi và do đó không cần quá trình thụ phấn thụ tinh nhưng bầu vẫn lớn lên thành quả nhờ auxin ngoại sinh. Trong trường hợp này quả không qua thụ tinh và do đó không có hạt.
